Do i need a Australian pport when travelling aorund Australia?

Iam planning to go to Queensland the end of this year but the day i iam going to QLD is the day my pport expires.Out of curiousity would i need a pport to travel from Sydney to the Gold coast?Keep in mind iam only going to be their for a week
