Best system for energy efficiency?

My boyfriend and I are purchasing out first home which runs of propane and electric. The home is around 800 sq ft and built in 1960 and has no basement (dirt floor). We want to get the home off propane but my boyfriend wants to go all electric! There are to many trees for solar, and I want to be as enviormentally friendly as possible. Any suggestions?
