How to write a research paper in MLA format?

I'm in English four and yes, I have written a research paper last year in my English cl in MLA format, But I don't remember a darn thing about that paper, and it wasn't really in MLA format, either, I don't believe, but my teacher still accepted it for some reason. I just need to know how to format the page and all that good stuff so I can make a decent grade on my senior project. I am planning to be a writer when I get out of school, and I know it is embarasing to be interested in English/writing and still not know MLA format like the back of my hand. In my defense, I didn't really understand what i was doing last year, so I pretty much am in the same position now. She just told us to write it in MLA format, didn't explain the basics of it much, then turned us loose, so I have had literally no experience with this format whatsoever. I know I will have to do many writing ignments in college, and that this is just the beginning of tedious hours of work. I need to know this stuff even though the type of writing I want to do when I get a job will not include research papers. So please, tell me all you know, list websites, books, articles, etc. whatever you can that will explain to me how to get this done. Thank you so much.
