Did I do something wrong?

I got a new kitten a couple of weeks ago, then all of a sudden it meows at me and leads me to the food bowl, it's never done this and we haven't got toys to be perfectly honest so I came to a conclusion that he wanted to play. There was no food in it, so why not? I started skidding the food bowl across the floor and Tommy (My kitten) kept meowing. So, I thought I'd play a little more rough and I threw it.. I accidentally hit the kitten on the paw and now he's limping, I'm not sure if I should take him to the vet or not.. It's not too bad.
