Asking one of my best guy friends to promm question?!?

Ok. so there is this guy and he is one of my best friends and i can always go to him for anythingg! and weve been pretty close for about a year now. and i met him thru churchh! =]. so prm is in lke 6 weeks ishh and i need to start figuring out what i want to do?! well i know i wanna ask him. but idkk how. and i almost dont want to wait til sunday to ask in person [bc i only see him at church] but other than that i talk to him throughout the week. what do i say or do?! and please dont ell me to use "well ask him if he is going to the prom and then tell him you dont have a date either". because he is a sopre and im a junior so obviously he wouldnt even be thinking about it. help please. im a shy girl who will most likely get nervouss?! but i realllyy wanna go with himm.! thankss all. =]
